My Demons

I bought it but returned it. There's good grooves and good beats on it, but the tracks don't go anywhere, like his inspiration gave in halfway through every track, which is a shame. The sound is very synthy and quite distinct however, and there's definetely some good stuff here, (personal favourites being the heavy and grimey 'Night Vision' and also 'Ska' with it's epic riddim) but overall his compositions are lacking and a bit dull. Also, in my eyes he did not exploit the potential of the synths and rythems he uses throughout the album, which leads to a lack of dynamics. Also, it might just be me not having a huge subwoofer in my place, but some of the tracks are somewhat lacking in bass, a problem I have not come across with most dubstep records. In short: In the end, I find it boring and lacking the proper dancefloor punch. Summary: the best dubstep album to date.

This LP needs time. At first you just like the harder ones like 'Ska', 'Night Vision' and 'Mistral'. But with every listen you discover the over tracks more and realise that tunes like 'Tuning', 'Fractured', 'Confined' and 'My demons' are the real killers on this one. Distance is like a few others able to create such an intense industrial, cold and grimey atmosphere. And he samples one of my favorite films in 'Tuning' - Kiefer Sutherland in 'Dark City'. Extra point for that;-).
